If you want to contribute to keeping Toronto’s libraries running and send a message to Mayor Ford asking him to do the same, here’s the step-by-step guide to donation:
Follow the link below to the Toronto Public Library Foundation’s website. Scroll down to the “Donate Now” button and click it to go to the Canada Helps Website. http://www.tplfoundation.ca/givejoy
Type ‘Toronto Public Library Foundation’ in the “Who Do You Want To Give To” bar.
Click on the name of the charity to get to the next page, which gives a profile of the Foundation. In the right hand top corner of the page are three pink tabs; click “Donate Now” to proceed.
On the next page, choose the amount you would like to donate. Please remember that it must be a minimum of $10 for Mayor Ford to receive a card. Also be sure to choose “Give Joy” as the Fund/Designation and continue to fill in the information as prompted.
When you arrive at the section of the page that states “Dedications & Gift Options”, select “Yes, as a gift in honour/on behalf of” and choose “Request that the charity send a card by postal mail”. If you are concerned about the environmental impact of paper cards, you can select to send Mayor Ford an e-card instead at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Mayor’s address is:
Mayor Rob Ford
100 Queen Street West 2nd Floor
City Hall, Office of the Mayor
Toronto, ON M5H 2N2
After filling in the address, you have the option of signing the card and including a personal message. Use your real name or an alias such as “Toronto citizen”, but please keep the message respectful and do not make any slurs, attacks or threats toward the Mayor. We want you to express your desire to see libraries remain an important part of the city in a constructive and peaceful way.
Once you have filled in the form, the website will ask you to confirm your donation and you can proceed to pay using any major credit card, interac, or paypal. There is an additional form to fill out with information for a tax receipt. If you wish to remain anonymous from the library, click the appropriate places to have your name and information remain confidential.
Now that you’re done making your donation, share your feelings about the project with others and encourage them to do the same. If all of us contribute what we can, we can send a powerful message to the Mayor and the community.
